The Finance Minister announced :


Further, the Finance Minister announced that under the Chief Minister's Rural Roads Development Programme, 6500 km of roads will be constructed at a cost Rs. 2200 crore of Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu also announced that 25,000 houses would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 600 crore, especially in place of unrepairable houses. 


He also announced that one lakh houses will be built at a cost of about Rs 3500 crore in this financial year under the Kalaignar kanavu illam Scheme. The Finance Minister also announced that the Kalaignar kanavu illam scheme will continue to be implemented to make urban areas slum-free.


The Kalaignar kanavu illam scheme :


The aim of the project is to build permanent concrete houses that are safe for everyone. With the return of the DMK government in 2021, the scheme has been expanded to provide an Kalaignar kanavu illam scheme. At present, 8 lakh people live in slums. The Tamil Nadu government plans to build 8 lakh concrete houses in rural areas by 2030 to achieve the target of slum-free Tamil Nadu.



Minister I. Periasamy said in the Legislative Assembly today that one lakh houses would be completed by May 31 under the Kalaignar kanavu illam scheme.tnrd.tn.gov.in


Speaking in the Tamil Nadu Assembly during the debate on the budget, AIADMK member Sellur Raju said that less funds have been spent than what was allocated for the ' kalaignar kanavu illam ' project. " He said.


Replying to this, Minister I Periyasamy said, " You announced the green house scheme. But the plan has not been implemented. One lakh houses will be completed by May 31 under the Kalaignar kanavu illam Scheme. 8 lakh houses will be built in the next 8 years. " He said.
