The Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that one lakh houses will be constructed in the financial year 2024-2025 under the kalaignar kanavu illam Scheme. This was announced by the Tamil Nadu Rural Development Department.
For the first time, Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu made a major announcement in the Legislative Assembly on February 19, 2024 (19-02-2024) under the kalaignar kanavu illam Scheme. The main objective of this project is to convert the slum houses into concrete houses, especially in Tamil Nadu.
Following this announcement, the Tamil Nadu Rural Development Project officials issued a Government Order i.e. the Government Order on the Artist Women's Rights Project
Under this scheme, the government had issued an order to provide ₹3,10,000 per house i.e. three lakh ten thousand per beneficiary under the kalaignar kanavu illam Scheme.
All the concrete houses to be constructed should have a total size of 360 square feet with a kitchen, mainly 300 square feet of which should be concrete houses and with RCC defects.
The main material used should not be the roof or the driveway.
This kalaignar kanavu illam should be within 3 lakh fifty thousand rupees including the total amount for a house, all the walls of the house should be built of brick or inter lock block, ACC block etc.

And today to select the eligible beneficiaries for the scheme, the village panchayat president and the village panchayat assistant engineer or the block engineer, the ward members and the panchayat supervisors, all the committees should inspect all the huts in their village and select the list of beneficiaries mainly on the basis of merit.
It is learned that the guidelines for applying for this scheme will be announced soon in which the list of applicants will be selected by the Panchayat Officers of the village on the basis of merit and will be handed over to the officials.
Also, if there are more than 25 to 50 houses pending in the PM Awas Yojana in the villages, then the allocation for the kalaignar kanavu illam Scheme for that year will not be included.
The Director of Rural Development should send the details of the allotment of houses to the beneficiaries of the village allotted under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) on the basis of the taluk and village basis.
