This Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme is one of the biggest schemes launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu since its inception on 23.01.2009 and continues to operate till date.

Subsequently, the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme is being implemented in convergence with the Pradhan Mantri Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMJDY) of the Government of India with effect from 23.09.2018. At present, this scheme is being run by the United India Insurance Company.

The Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in Tamil Nadu can cover more than 1.40 crore people, which was taken up till January 2022.

Under this scheme, a number of treatment methods including neonatal, 52 diagnostic methods have been developed and eight series of treatment are being done.

Not only this, under this Chief Minister Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, more than 900 private hospitals and more than 800 government hospitals have been approved to provide treatment under this scheme. In addition, under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, all poor families are provided world-class high-quality treatment in government and private hospitals. About 1.40 crore families will benefit from this scheme.

Under this scheme, from newborns to the elderly, the Tamil Nadu government is providing treatment in government and private hospitals.

The program includes 1090 procedures, eight surgical procedures, and 52 diagnostic procedures.
